Passat (B6) CC (3c8) 2.0 TSI MED17 ECU Removal Guide

Precautions and notes before removing the ECU:

The ECU (Engine Control Unit) is a computer that controls your engine. You must have the ECU installed for your vehicle to function. Before removing the ECU, make sure your vehicle is in a safe location where it may sit, unattended, while the ECU is sent back and forth to APR. Be sure to leave the vehicle in park, or in gear, with the emergency brake on. Turn off the vehicle before proceeding and remove the key from the ignition. Disconnect the battery and do not reconnect the battery until the ECU is fully reinstalled. Also do not put the key into the ignition or attempt to start the car until the ECU's back in the car. Make sure you discharge any static electricity before handling the ECU and care when handling the ECU. Make sure the ECU is not subjected to extreme heat or cold, magnets, electrical shock, physical shock or liquids. Also do not attempt to open the ECU. When fully removed from the vehicle, be sure to package the ECU in a safe container for shipping with adequate packaging material. A static and or waterproof bag is ideal.
